Urgent claims (fire, water damage, sewer backup)

To top

Report the claim to your AXA broker as soon as possible. Your broker will put you in contact with us and we’ll process your claim application quickly and efficiently. An adjuster can guide you through your loss, putting you in touch with specialists, for instance, who can protect your property and limit the damage.

Non-urgent claims

To top

Report the loss to your AXA broker as soon as possible. Your broker will report the details of the loss to AXA's claims department. An adjuster will contact you soon afterwards and provide the necessary assistance.

In case of water damage

To top

Take steps immediately to protect your property:

  • Turn off the electricity in the affected area and remove any electrical appliances and equipment.
  • If your property has a gas inlet, check for fumes. If you notice even a slight odour, leave your home and call 911 immediately.
  • Shut off the main water supply to avoid further damage to your property.
  • Move all items out of wet basements and away from flooded parts of your home and place them on an elevated surface.

If the sewer backs up into your basement, do not flush toilets or turn on any taps as this will only cause further flooding.

  • Separate damaged property from undamaged property and prepare an inventory of what has been lost or damaged.
  • Take photographs of the damaged property.

Did you know?

Prevent water damage all year long

Periodically check that the dishwasher and washing machine hook-ups are not leaking and replace hoses that show signs of deterioration or cracking.

Spring cleaning

Spring means spring cleaning! There is nothing like fresh air to freshen up your home. Yet you should be careful not to leave doors and windows open unattended. The same applies for garage doors. Be sure to close them whenever you go out. Do not tempt thieves; they will not turn down this "invitation".

General Tips

Negligence remains the leading cause of fire. However, simple precautions can prevent a disaster. Ensure that all of your smoke detectors are functioning properly. Avoid overloading electrical circuits, and above all, never leave smokers' materials within reach of children.

Going away? Tips to keep your home safe

If you're away for more than four consecutive days during the heating season, have a competent person enter your house daily to ensure heating is maintained. If you can't make these arrangements, a temperature alarm can be installed and linked to your monitored home security system, as an alternative.
